Day 6: Exercise

day-6-exercise Exercise. I can’t even begin to tell you how important exercise — preferably daily! — is for you. Physical exercise literally saved my life three decades ago. It has so many benefits that if you hate exercise, you really need to just get over it. Find some sort of physical activity that you can enjoy — at least enough to do it consistently. It will completely change your life, your mood and attitude, your health. Let’s look at some of the benefits of exercise.

We could cure obesity with exercise. It is the number one most important factor is losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight. Nutrition comes in at a close second. You’ll often hear me say you can’t out-exercise over eating. But, you can out-exercise small indulgements here and there with exercise.

Did you know that many deadly diseases could be cured and prevented by maintaining a healthy body weight? Heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, cardiovascular diseases, stroke, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, depression, certain types of cancer, arthritis and falls. Looking at that list, how can you NOT want to exercise regularly? I’m not sure there is any other single factor that will do more to keep you healthy than exercise.

Exercise is a mood elevator. If you’re feeling down and depressed, there is nothing like a run, a swim, cycling, or a good weight session to release endorphins into your system and lift your mood.

Feeling tired? Try exercise! It will also boost your energy. It may seem like the opposite would be true, but this is one of the reasons strenuous exercise isn’t recommended close to bedtime. And, it seems to have a cumulative effect. If you get into a regular exercise routine, you’ll find that you have more energy throughout the day. It also helps you sleep better at night. So, if you struggle getting a good night’s sleep, start incorporating a good workout into your daily routine.

You don’t need to spend hours and hours working out. Aim for 30 minutes of activity every day. You’ll be amazed at the difference it makes in every area of your life!
